Teachers in Luxor for Tour 1
KazafyPrincipal dancer with the famous Reda Troupe for several years. Khazafy thinks of Farida Fahmy as his second mother. He first came to the UK with the Farha Tour in March 2005 and 2006 and Australia in 2008 wowed audiences with his graceful yet earthy Saidi Dance and Port Said Spoon dance and his entrancing duet with Yasmina. He features in both DVD's and also in Yasmina's new DVD, 'Journey of Desire'. He has toured Australia three times in the last two years. Khazafy has developed a solo career and left the Reda troupe. He is now an international performer and teacher of great repute.
Eman Zaki
Eman Zaki is probably more well known to most dancers as the creator of gorgeous and very wearable costumes. I certainly find Eman's costumes a joy to wear and dance in, and this could be because she used to be a dancer so understands what we need and like. Eman has recently started teaching again and has a wonderful understanding and interpretation of the music - and of course knows what the words to the songs mean. She is soft and fluid with a classic style and encouraging manner - a unique taste of Egypt not to be missed.
Lorna Gow
Lorna is Scottish, and was born in Edinburgh, where she taught and danced professionally before moving to Cairo. Lorna has been working as a dancer in Cairo since 2006 and has a vibrant modern style. She also teaches, and will be teaching Modern Cairo and Working with a Band at the Farha Festival. Once again, a chance for another fascinating insight into the dance and music scene in Cairo as well as learning some great new stuff.
Musicians – Fe’ret el Negoum
Safaa Farid’s group, Safaa Farid’s group, Fer’et el Negoum, have been playing in Cairo for over twenty years, first forming in 1982 and working for seven years with the famous dancer Zizi Mustafa. Since then they have gone on to play with other soloists, and began working with Yasmina in 1996. The core members of the band, Safaa Farid (singer), Reda Saad (accordionist), Ashraf Barsoum (keyboards) and Sayed Ibrahim (sagat player, comic and dancer in his own right!), are still together today, along with Ashraf Mousa (duff). Gamal Fouad (nai), Emad Sukkar (tabla), and Naser Abdou have been with the band and played with Yasmina for many years. Safaa Farid’s velvet singing voice can be heard on several dance CD’s, including ‘Layali Yasmina’, ‘Heya di Yasmina’, and Badia’s ‘Delaa el Helween’. Dancers Mohamed Khazafy and Sayed Amar joined the group in October 2004 and have become an important part of the show offering the folkloric element.
